So first we did the family gifts...
| a frisbee golf set, a few new shirts, and a bottle of alcohol. Classy! |
And then we (or really I) thought it'd be great to get out for a quick family bike ride, before heading to dinner. So off we went, Ryan and Eddy on bikes and me on foot with KK on her Strider. And there's a steep-ish hill near our house, but we've ridden down it hundreds of time and just take it slow. For some reason Ry swerved while going down it, he crashed over the front of his bike, and broke his fall with his face. Poor kid. Eddy saw the whole thing, I did not thankfully, but came up on them 30 seconds after it happened. There was blood, and lots of crying. And then the coolest part was the local firetruck just happened to be passing and they stopped to help us. Poor Ry couldn't appreciate how neat it was to have a huge firetruck and 3 firemen kneeling next to us.
Thankfully, the wounds were primarily skin deep. He sliced the inside of his lip, and it was bleeding quite a bit, so the paramedic advised us to take him in to see if he needed stitches. Once we got him home, and got him to relax a bit, we decided it'd be best to just get it over with and go in to the ER. Thankfully my parents were stopping by en route home from Tahoe, so they stayed with Kaitlyn while Eddy and I got to go with Ryan. He was such a trooper, and stayed pretty calm through all the waiting, and ended up he did not need any stitches thank goodness. Just lots of soft foods, milkshakes and popsicles for the next few days. And lots of love.
And to celebrate Eddy once we all got home, we ordered pizza to be delivered and served him up some ice cream for dessert with a few candles in it. We had to sing in order to make the birthday official. Sigh, parenthood. Gotta love it.

| Happy birthday to Eddy! |
The next day, Ry was moving slowly, still with a huge fat lip and hurting hands from all the scrapes, but it was his team's first baseball game. So I strongly encouraged (ok, forced) him to put on his team jersey and hat and we went to the game to cheer on his team. Poor guy, hid his face behind a magazine the entire time, peaking over to watch the action every now and then. He was super self conscious about his face. But he survived, and earned a smoothie for lunch, and then we didn't do anything else the rest of the day. Baby steps.
At this point he is doing much better -- wounds are scabbing over, his lip is normal size again, and he went to school today with only a slight hesitation. I'm certain he'll be back on that bike in no time! Hopefully no more trips to the ER any time soon!
