forty two

Yesterday was Eddy's parents' wedding anniversary, and last night we helped them celebrate their
42 years of marriage.  Congrats to them!

soccer practice

The other night, after Eddy got home from work, he decided it was time to get Ryan started on playing sports...and the sport of choice for the evening was soccer.  Well, at least passing the ball.   Ry needs to work on not using his hands so much, but otherwise I think he's a natural.

hangin 'round the house

This was somewhat of a quiet week around here, yet with Ryan nothing is ever truly quiet.  He is getting into everything these days, keeping us on our toes.
backyard swimming
backyard splashing
playing (and eating) cards
Auntie Dana, Auntie Drea and cousin Alexandra came by for a visit
"hey, want to play ball with me?"
"please come play with me.  please?"

my friend Devon (who is six months prego) came by for a visit, and Ryan had to show her all of his toys
playing ball
standing in the toy basket, reaching for the CDs.  and it begins...maybe we should babyproof a bit more?

tahoe tahoe tahoe

We spent this weekend loving every minute of the summer warmth in Tahoe.  Aside from just relaxing at the cabin, we managed to go for a long bike ride over to Squaw Valley, take a walk along the lake, and of course we had to go swimming...no matter how cold the water.  Even Ryan managed to get in the water and splash around, but then he got sidetracked by the sand.  Amazingly, that's the first thing he hasn't tried to put in his mouth! Smart kid.
Ryan learned how to wave last week, and it's so much fun!  Although half the time it just makes me laugh as he's waving at trees, cars, etc.  He also has become Eddy's partner in crime.  He loves when his dad flips him over and holds him upside down, jumps on the bed with him, and all other things that boys do together when left alone.  Best of all, the two of them can make each other giggle like nobody else.
Here are the highlights from the weekend....
checking out the view from the deck
dancing and singing
(I believe "Livin' on a Prayer" was playing)
breakfast on the deck
brrrrrr, that mountain water is cold!
but the splashing makes the cold water bearable
it's not so bad to sit in
floating with Nanny and Dzia Dzia
the whole family went swimming
later, back at the cabin, Ryan created his own obstacle course by attempting to crawl under the treacherous coffee table.  It took him a little while, but he managed to crawl out, and then back in, and then out, etc.
yeah, down by the lake!
our walk down to the lake at Sugar Pine Point state park
practicing his wave
nap time!
just can't get over the color of that water

stair master

It's amazing to me how quickly kids can go from just exploring and figuring out how to do something to doing that same thing like a pro.  Here's Ryan's latest trick, mastered...

just another Sunday at the park

We went on a little picnic today with Eddy's family to get out and enjoy the sunshine
so hard to get Ryan to actually look at the camera
Ry's always good for a little swinging
really excited about still being able to grab his toes

And a few other random pics...
again with the forehead bruises, and again still smiling.  a true warrior.

done and done

My dad, Ryan's Dzia Dzia, retired from his 36+ years of working in the business world last week.  So we figured a party was more than necessary.  We threw a little picnic in honor of him, and it was a great turn out of his friends from all walks of his life.  A great tribute to a great man.
Although, Ryan kinda stole most of the attention...sorry pops.
(note the 2 bruises on Ry's forehead...his head met the coffee table earlier this week, ouch!
still smiling though, he's such a trooper)
Ryan....meet dirt.  Dirt....meet Ryan.  We have a feeling you two will become good friends.

hmmm, what's this?
you all have no idea how hard it is to get a good picture of my dad...and here are 2 of them!
it was meant to be I guess.
Congrats Dad!  Happy Retirement....thanks for all you've done for our family...you've earned every minute of the upcoming relaxation, travel, and world exploration. Enjoy!
